Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 1, 2026Wexplo ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Wexplo mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile photo (if you upload one)
- Authentication credentials (hashed, never stored in plain text)
- Preferred language and content preferences
Location Data
Wexplo is a location-based service. With your permission, we collect:
- Precise GPS coordinates — used in real time to trigger audio stories about nearby places and to provide geofence-based notifications
- Movement speed and travel mode — used to adjust trigger radius and story depth (e.g., shorter stories while driving)
- Countries visited — stored in your World Map profile feature
Location data is processed on our servers only for the duration needed to generate relevant content. We do not build persistent location-tracking profiles. For analytics, we use rounded coordinates (city-level precision) that cannot identify your exact position.
Device Information
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Unique device identifiers (for push notifications only)
- Network connection type
Usage Data
- Stories listened to and interactions (likes, skips, feedback)
- Tours browsed, created, and played
- Features used (Ask AI, Groups, etc.)
- App performance metrics (crash reports, load times)
AI Interactions
When you use the Ask AI feature, your voice recordings are sent to our servers for transcription and then processed by an AI model to generate responses. Voice recordings are not stored permanently — they are deleted after transcription is complete. Conversation history is stored on your device and in your account for continuity purposes.
User-Generated Content
If you create personal tours, write reviews, or submit feedback, that content is stored in association with your account.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To generate AI-powered audio stories about your surroundings
- To provide location-triggered content and geofence notifications
- To personalize story depth, style, and language to your preferences
- To enable social features (following, groups, leaderboards)
- To process and display personal tours you create
- To improve our AI models and content quality (using anonymized, aggregated data)
- To send important service updates and security notifications
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security threats
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Wexplo:

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers — third-party vendors listed above who assist in operating our Service, bound by data processing agreements
- Public profile — your display name, avatar, and public tour data are visible to other users if you choose to make them public
- Legal requirements — when required by law, subpoena, or legal process
- Safety — to protect the rights, safety, or property of Wexplo, our users, or the public
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Cached audio and story data may be retained on our servers to improve response times for all users.
To delete your account and all associated data:
- Open the Wexplo app
- Go to Profile → Settings
- Tap "Delete Account"
- Confirm deletion
Upon deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained for analytics and service improvement. You may also request deletion by emailing privacy@wexplo.ai.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS 1.3), encryption at rest, secure authentication (PKCE flow), and row-level security policies on our database. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
7. Children's Privacy
Wexplo is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@wexplo.ai and we will promptly delete it.
8. Your Rights
GDPR (European Economic Area)
If you are in the EEA, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict processing of your data
- Data portability
- Object to processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell data)
- Non-discrimination for exercising your rights

9. Analytics Opt-Out
We use PostHog for product analytics. You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time in the app under Profile → Settings → Analytics toggle. When opted out, no usage events or device information will be sent to our analytics service.
10. Location Permissions
You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Without location access, some features (story triggering, geofencing, nearby POIs) will be unavailable, but you can still browse tours, manage your profile, and use other non-location features.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
